Founded in 1963, Cook Medical began operations in the Cook family's second bedroom, where they hand crafted needles, wire guides, and catheters. The operation grew over the following decades into what it is today; an employer of over thirteen thousand employees worldwide and innovative manufacturer of lifesaving, minimally invasive medical devices.
In addition, the Cook family developed a diverse portfolio of companies including those in the hospitality industry, property management, life sciences, and various other services. While many of these companies are based in Bloomington, Indiana, Cook Medical also operates in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, Canton, Illinois, Copenhagen, Denmark, Limerick, Ireland, and Brisbane, Australia.
The Cook family has long been focused on philanthropy and community building. This can be seen in the Cook’s historical preservation efforts, including the complete restoration of the West Baden Springs Hotel near French Lick, IN and significant investments in redeveloping downtown Bloomington, IN and Canton, IL.
All of these investments reflect the deep community values which the Cook family imparted to the company from its inception.
