Report

Founded in 1963, Cook Medical began operations in the Cook family's second bedroom, where they hand crafted needles, wire guides, and catheters. The operation grew over the following decades into what it is today; an employer of over thirteen thousand employees worldwide and innovative manufacturer of lifesaving, minimally invasive medical devices.

In addition, the Cook family developed a diverse portfolio of companies including those in the hospitality industry, property management, life sciences, and various other services. While many of these companies are based in Bloomington, Indiana, Cook Medical also operates in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, Canton, Illinois, Copenhagen, Denmark, Limerick, Ireland, and Brisbane, Australia.

The Cook family has long been focused on philanthropy and community building. This can be seen in the Cook’s historical preservation efforts, including the complete restoration of the West Baden Springs Hotel near French Lick, IN and significant investments in redeveloping downtown Bloomington, IN and Canton, IL.

All of these investments reflect the deep community values which the Cook family imparted to the company from its inception.

It’s possible to do good business and do good in the community, too.

Being a family-owned company means that we can operate our business in a way that aligns with our values.

The Cook family asks us to do three things: make decisions in the best interest of patients, be a place where we are all proud to work, and be an active partner in making our communities better. The Cook family set an incredible standard over the last 5 decades, and working to make our communities better is deeply embedded in our DNA.

When people do business with Cook, we want them to know that we have a unique portfolio of medical devices but also that they are doing business with a company that understands its obligations to be an active partner in making our communities better. We’re not your typical company.

We believe that it’s the responsibility of all businesses, not just Cook, to use our resources, skills, and opportunities to elevate the communities that we operate in by being actively engaged. It ties into our fundamental belief that it is possible do good business and do good in the community, too.
